On a related note... Medical science blogger "Abel Pharmboy" liveblogged his vasectomy last week. You can relive the adventure here if you have the stomach: Liveblogging the Vasectomy Chronicles. It's yet another proud milestone for the web. I don't know who is creepier -- the blogger who did this or the readers who tuned in live.

Well, I'll be the first to admit the idea sounded odd at first. However, I am a medical/health blogger and biomedical educator so I wanted to use my personal experience to show men how the procedure was relatively straightforward. The post has gotten a lot of men (and some women) to discuss their own experiences, fears, and misconceptions in the comment thread and a subsequent post details the 30 or so links the account drew. Many of those also include lengthy comment threads. So, yes, this may seem "creepy" on the surface but I was happily surprised to learn just how many folks viewed my self-effacing account as a medical information public service.
Thanks very much for the link - sorry to have made anyone queasy!

No problem -- I can take it. :) And I can appreciate the educational aspects so I'm happy to hear it's having an impact.
